ZetaChain is a blockchain that connects several others. It also offers an environment to work with smart contracts, NFTs and decentralized applications, without having to leave the platform, facilitating negotiations with different coins.
A differentiator of this layer 1 blockchain is the possibility of working with smart contracts even with other networks that do not have it. This brings more flexibility, allowing platforms to communicate with each other, avoiding isolated negotiations.
Omnichain concept
The word "omni" comes from Latin and means "all", "all", "totally". The omnichain concept follows this meaning: infrastructure that communicates with any blockchain. This allows interoperability, making the chains interconnected.
Compared to the physical world, you can say that the omnichain works like streets, roads, water and electricity connections. The other chains would be houses, buildings and constructions. Each one has its own characteristics, which are communicated through the omnichain.
The idea of ZetaChain comes from a time when there is a wide variety of blockchains in the crypto world, and negotiations are significant. By having a system that connects these chains, popularity (and the number of transactions) should increase even further.
Communication between chains with and without smart contracts
On Web3, negotiations (financial or otherwise) are carried out on blockchains, without intermediation from authorities or governments. However, there are important differences between them: those based on Bitcoin do not have smart contracts, something that is common in those based on Ethereum.
For these blockchains to talk, ZetaChain's smart contracts are hosted in the ZetaEVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) module, which mediates between the networks.
In environments without smart contracts, there are synchronous and asynchronous architectures. In synchronous ones, smart contracts interconnect chains with this technology. The second ones use messages between chains to carry out this intermediation.
Advantages of ZetaChain
Environmental NFTs, for example, can be easily transferred between chains, especially those that do not support this technology, such as Bitcoin. Smart contracts and messaging systems connect different networks, without prejudice to the NFT holder.
In the DeFi environment, DAOs function freely, with the service of custody or management of digital assets. With the Zeta system, transactions happen smoothly, without blockages or crashes in general.
Furthermore, the process of lending digital assets is easier with ZetaChain: you can borrow cryptocurrencies between different chains in a single environment. Likewise, anyone who wants to receive interest can leave assets available for loan in the system.
ZETA token
The ZETA token is for governance. With it, users have the power to vote in meetings about changes or improvements to the platform. There are 2.1 billion units, used as gas fees for omnichain smart contracts and transactions in the system.
This token is also used as an intermediary asset between chains. When sending a message to another chain, a ZETA is attached as a unit of value. It was created on the ZRC-20 protocol (ERC-20 in ZetaChain parameters).
